Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the pieces expensive?
Consider the time, effort and materials that go into each piece. Each piece is handmade and one of a kind.
Vases and bowls are priced on wood, labor and original concept. Laminated items cost more because more work is involved. I use a flat rate for my labor costs.
I do not use any paint or stain on my pieces. All colors are from the natural color of the wood and/ or stone inlay.
Why are some vases and bowls more expensive than others?
Are any of the vases or bowls painted?
How long will it take to complete my piece(s)?
I complete the piece(s) in the order it was placed. I can't move an order up or down in the queue. It's not fair to the other customers who are also waiting.
Will you make a piece based on my design or idea and how much will it cost?
Yes. I will, within reason and limitation of my tools. The final price is based on types of wood used and difficulty. Generally vases run more because of labor required to make them.
Are the bowls safe to eat out of ?
I typically use lacquer for the finish which is not food safe. If a bowl is going to be used for food, it must be specified at time of order so I can use a food safe finish. I use a special finish for food safe items.
Are bowls and vases dishwasher safe?
No. Bowls and vases are not dishwasher safe. Food safe items should be wiped down occasionally but never washed.
Will a vase hold water?
It will hold water but it is not advisable to do it. The wood is water resistant but not waterproof. The glue is what gives out.
Will you make another bowl or vase pictured on the site for me?
Yes. Everything I make I will make again. Any piece reproduced will look like the piece requested but not exactly. No two pieces are alike. I add subtle changes to them to make each piece unique and one of a kind.
And now for some "different " questions.
How do you bend the wood to form the vase?
I have a special dual piston wood bender from Germany. Its made by Das Vood Benda.
